Application Lifecycle Management - Tools

This page is now only relevant when the ALM Client Launcher is installed on the client machine, due to the ended support of Microsoft Internet Explorer on June 15, 2022. For further information on the ALM Client Launcher, visit ALM Help Center and search for ALM Client Launcher.

Alternatively, you may initiate and register the ALM Client through Internet Explorer Mode in Microsoft Edge. For more details, visit ALM Help Center and search for Internet Explorer Mode.

ALM Client Registration

To work with other Micro Focus testing tools as well as third-party and custom tools, ALM must be registered on client machines. ALM Client Registration enables you to deploy and register the following ALM components on a client machine:

  • ALM Client components
  • ALM Site Administration Client components

For a list of the tools for which you must register ALM on a client machine, see the Application Lifecycle Management Installation Guide.

Instructions:

  1. Log on to the client machine as a local user or a domain user with administrator privileges.
  2. Make sure you have all the permissions listed in the Required Permissions section.
  3. Make sure you close all instances of ALM/Quality Center and any integration tools.
  4. Open your browser as administrator.
  5. Start ALM and re-access this Tools page for ALM Client Registration.
  6. To register ALM Client (32-bit or 64-bit), click Register ALM. To register ALM Site Administration (32-bit or 64-bit), click Register ALM Site Administration.
You are prompted to open ALM Client Launcher to complete the registration. If you do not install ALM Client Launcher, follow the on-screen instructions to download ALM Client Launcher.

Required Permissions:

You must have permissions to the following folders:

  • Full read and write permissions to the ALM-Client deployment folder.
    This is located at: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%.
  • Full read and write permissions to the Temp (%TEMP% or %TMP%) directory. The installer program writes installation and log files to this directory.
This is generally located at: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp.

You must have full read the write permissions to the following registry keys:

  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

Notes:

  • After components are registered on the client machine by a user with administrator privileges, users without administrator privileges can start ALM client components.
  • If UFT is used in your machine, do not register ALM for 64-bit applications. The 64-bit ALM registration will be ignored.
